The North Carolina Secretary of State's office provides a simple, free tool for searching business information. While it's helpful for occasional searches, it may not be efficient for high-volume needs. Here's how to use it:

1. Go to the North Carolina Secretary of State's corporation search page.

2. Enter your search criteria in the basic interface. You can search by company name, assumed names, ID number, or names of Registered Agents or Officials.

3. Review the search results, which are limited to 100 records per page, listed alphabetically. Each result shows the company's status (active or inactive) and structure. Icons allow you to:

   - Upload a PDF filing

   - Order a document online

   - View document filings

   - Print pre-populated Annual Report or Amended Annual Report forms

   - Add the company to an email alert list for notifications of record changes

4. Click a company name for more details, including:

   - Names and contact information for Principals and Officials

   - Filing dates

   - Company's "citizenship" (domestic or foreign)

The same functions from the search results are available as links at the top of the details page.

While this free tool provides valuable information, it may not be practical for high-volume searches across multiple states, as data formats vary. Specialized tools can streamline bulk searches and data integration.
